A lot of people start their coaching journey by outlining their goals and trying to figure out how they can get their teams to achieve them. Hate to say it, but you’ll never, ever get there! Why? Well, coaching is about bringing out the best in others and helping them step closer toward their future and ultimate goals, not yours!
Not sure if you watched the Michael Jordan documentary; The Last Dance. But it brilliantly showed the art of coaching and the importance of coaching individuals one on one to help them achieve their goals.
Of course, if aligned, will ultimately lead to team success. This style of coaching certainly led the Chicago Bulls to a record 7 NBA championships! As a coach, it’s worth a watch if you haven’t seen it.
In terms of coaching your team as a real estate leader, you ideally want your team’s goals to align with your goals: to help more clients achieve their real estate ambitions to buy, sell, rent and live in properties.
Here are 3 Simplified Steps to Coaching Success in Real Estate:
1. Know your Clients (coaching recruits).
Take the time to learn how each person thinks and what their current reality looks like.
What are their:
- Motivations?
- Personal and business goals?
- Family situation?
- Core beliefs?
- Main drivers?
And, more importantly, understand why they are passionate about real estate!
2. Eliminating Limiting beliefs
Check-in to see if your team members are holding onto any limiting beliefs like: “I will never be a top agent”, “I won’t ever earn a million dollars” or “I’m not cut out to lead a team”.
It’s normal for people to doubt themselves. They need you to help them see a better version of themselves. In our coaching process, we call this Development Coaching.
All of these factors are invaluable when you step into a coaching mode with your team members because this will limit their ability to reach their true potential. By helping to eliminate these beliefs, you will be able to create a more compelling future vision together.
3. Create a Compelling Future Vision
Ask more questions to help create that vision:
- What does winning look like for you?
- What’s going to make the biggest difference to your life?
- What are the biggest upgrades you want to see?
- Ideally, how would you like your business/life/relationships to look?
Once you have created this future vision, helped eliminate any limiting beliefs and gained their commitment to helping them achieve their compelling future, you can get to work on building a super-focused action plan and accountability system to support them.
In following this 3 simple step coaching guideline, you’ll have more powerful conversations and more targeted coaching because you understand what your team needs to achieve their next growth phase.
